“Caligula’s Favorite Play” is a philosophical, political and emotional drama, combining black comedy and deeply affecting human tragedy. This ancient political horror story has much to tell us about the paralyzing effects of fear and the seductions of dictatorship. Freely inspired by Albert Camus’ Caligula, the libretto relies on a “play within a play” structure.
